Arms Procurement : Unreasonable for Approval
People First Party’s Positions
1.Taiwan needs arms procurements for self-defense, but refuses to be an idiot and a parvenu for approval.
Indeed, every country is in quest for arms procurements for self-defense. However, it can only be approved by drawing a reasonable budget in parliament, not a dull and parvenu-style procurement package definitely. Taiwanese people do bear determination to defend themselves, but refuse to be an idiot and a parvenu for such “unreasonable arms procurements” given by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party regime.
2.The ruling Democratic Progressive Party is good at playing a trick of “sneak,” thus, the arms procurement package cannot be handed on to the committee for reviewing.
There are many tricks---including secret reviewing, bribing legislators, technical voting---for the ruling DPP to “sneak” the package the committee for approval. To take advantage of the loophole of legislations is always DPP’s specialty. The first-ever referendum law applied last year presents a good example. Thus, blocking up the passage of “sneaking” into the National Defense Committee is actually to play the last consciousness for PFP to stop the bleeding of people’s paycheck.
3.Constructing a peaceful cross-strait relationship is superior to expanding armaments.
Taiwan needs to think about how to cultivate a peaceful cross-strait relationship and economic development as its priority, rather than expanding its military arms. To conduct arms race with countries that are stronger in resources will only bring about self-destruction. We should not follow the footstep of ancestors of what had already been proved wrong.
4.A-Bian: Standing-Up to Ask for Advanced Weapons that are in Service Now in US.
The United States is one of the most important allies for Taiwan, and which indeed needs to procure advanced and reliable military weapons to strengthen self-defense. Based on mutual strategic interests, the U.S. government should provide Taiwan with more “reasonable” and “advanced” weapons for purchase and rent.
5.Cutting Down Loans in the Government; Normalizing the Budget of Arms Procurement.
In the future, the budget for arms procurements shall be listed annually in budgetary method in parliament, and PFP opposes to greatly increase loan for arms buying in the government.
